Hi Lumen,

12a - 3 letter "remote" + "landscapist" (very famous) minus extra letter - definition is last word.

Thanks brendan, still not seeing that, guess there are clashes.
Artist must be shortened twice then? Once by the ' reduced' and once by the extra letter.

You're right about the artist being shortened twice. The answer is two very common words in a row but, prior to this crossword, I'd never come across it before.

Thank you, Aedites; challenging but eminently do-able with a lot of thematic material - the pattern of the clashes (and the erasures) raised a smile. However admirable the author may have been, I don’t share his sentiments I fear!

Have quotation and author but quite unable to parse clue 27 across; I have a possible answer but inability to parse suggests my answer is wrong. Does 'went' suggest a slang word for going to the loo?

And in clue 8 down, 'exciting me' - does the first word suggest something to do with temperature?

Any nudges much appreciated.

Four words; eight boundaries; one grid fill plus one extra letter.

Many thanks HW7. How dull I am, failing to consider the fifth word of the clue being plural.
