A very pleasant early morning brain work-out. Thanks to the setter. Favourite is 11a.

COD has to be 8d. The anagram and anagrind are the first two words, but it's not at all clear which is which. They are the same length and have five letters in common, including all of the four crossers. Very clever. Needless to say I barked for a long time up the wrong tree.

I like your explanation alohaned for 8d , I too struggled to work out which 8 letters to play with. But my CoD is 24a.

Overall enjoyable but had to take two bites. First one late last night when I could not get to sleep left me with about eight unfinished and frustrated. Then waking too early this morning they all slotted in. My brain must have been scrambling all night.

Rhyming pair, primarily, long anagrams, a couple of hiddens. 23a also fun and I think I've got that now.

LOI 22D took me longer to crack than all the rest combined for some reason! Just an odd word, I guess.
COD the small but perfectly formed 14A.

Phil, 22d was my LOI too, I spent too long assuming that there was a synonym for granny in there somewhere... When the penny finally dropped it was one of those "why didn't I see that earlier?" Moments!

Very. Enjoyable Everyman I thought. Happy Sunday all.

I have no idea how to parse 27a, despite having googled the answer.

Is anyone able to explain how it works please?

Hi ... It parses 4 4 ... ‘without changes’ and ‘Benedict regularly’

Hi Druh,

27a - "without change" is 2,2 then the test of the letters are the regular letters in Benedict

Hi druh. First two words gives first four letters, third word the rest.
