Just winding up on this one - didn't get 5 Down, which is:-
"Couple in bar turning round, making you jump" (4) A-E-
Also, can't fully parse 46 Down "No longer nurse a lonely heart, say. if looking up old dramatist" The answer would appear to be "SENECA".
And, next to it, 47 Down, "Like soil often put in church yard primarily"
I can't accommodate the "L" in what appears to be "CLAYEY"

Many thanks, as always, Malone! If you see anything on "SENECA" please let me know. "lonely heart" may be "NE", of course!

Glad I could help. I think Seneca is SEN, state enrolled nurse ( no longer used, so 'old') with Ace, a lonely heart, card going up. I think the lonely is because it's only 1, and heart say = am example of a card. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks again, Malone. Have come back to you after learning when an auto specialist can look at my motor, which is now temporarily kaput , with the clutch having given up the ghost!
