No- that was doing my head in too! It goes to show that using the online "Chambers" word search doesn't always get results- a patient trawl through the print version would have yielded a result.

I don't know whether it's just me, but I've thought that of late the "Speccie" has been gradually becoming a little easier... until 2524 came along. This was a real belter of a puzzle from "Pabulum".

Is 47 inurn or enurn? I don’t understand the wordplay.

Unclued, Chambers has
T = (as a medieval Roman numeral) 160
So it's a phrase for 'successively', minus T

Thanks Mattrom. I find it hard to track down these odd numbers like 160.
I can recommend the weekly crossword in the New Statesman. They also now have a quick one - good fun!

Recommend this app for phone or tablet rather than Words online. Full dictionary searchable by known/unknown letters etc.

I am short of one letter in 12 across - Note chap going round institute (5, doubly hyphened). I have got E-L-A-M-? and my Chambers (13th) has nothing to say on the subject.

Gerba, E-la-mi, note, is in my 13th Chambers (under e-la). It's Male, chap, going round, reversed, Elam +I, institute.

You are, as usual, quite right Malone. And I dissed Chambers when I hadn't searched hard enough..... tut. tut. And thanks.

Thanks, Gerba, you're very kind. Glad I could help.

PS We've all been failing searchers at times!
