1 ac. getting spliced is slang getting....... - people often do it in a church and the Lady enters to Mendelssohn (is that the spelling?) Well, if you do that twice, you could be committing ......
1d. is a device for introducing wind into fire. Backsmiths might use them to make their firre burn brightly. I think musical organs may use something of the same name to provide their wind.

Both these solutions begin with B.

2d It's a Yiddish word (plural). Think of a Spanish artist without the last letter and then one of the notes from do, re, etc
9ac 3 letter word meaning knowing around 'a'. Rather obscure word and it is not sly!
11ac Synonym for a jester with s in meaning the universe

9a--is Fly around 'a' giving flay--to strip.
What on earth is the answer to the orinoco clue and the Chigwell man (down in the bottom left hand corner.
