I am stuck on 52a, 48d and 49d. Help would be appreciated.

Also, is the answer to 16a reticulated? If so, why?

Hello - first post, so apologies in advance if I use the wrong jargon!
52a singular = s + a fruit + to make money
definer = fresh flavour
48d people distinct from us + e (ultimate of 'provide') definer = basis for variations
49d Poet Sylvia Plath was separated from whom? - ie she once had 'a XXX' (name), but then she had '??-XXX. (It's a bit weak, to be honest!)

Oh, and 49d's definer is 'remarked upon'.
'Reticulated' is correct - a term to describe some python snakes - anatomical, I think. 'bound again' = 're-tied', 'devotion' = 'cult', which surrounds Chapman's recurring part = 'a', ie two a's in 'Chapman' - good Monty P. red herring, there!

'Counter-insurgency' is correct. Definer is 'suppression of revolt'. 'Consider' = 'count', as in 'I consider him a friend' -'Emerald Isle's' = Ireland's = Erin's (poetic name for Ireland) - 'pressing need' = 'urgency'.
