A good response. Pigale and nemo set the bar high with their early contenders and there was a host of imaginative anagrams and clever wordplay to enjoy. I was particularly struck by aristo@18 and ginge@28, but I’m going to go with pigale’s nicely worked post 3: “Who decides terrible actor will lose lead part?” It tickled my fancy as soon as I read it.

The prize is “un petit quelquechose” from the surreal and ever-inventive Eddie Izzard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1sQkEfAdfY

Thanks to all for taking part.

I like it, bigbad, very much. A bit too late, though, and I would have stayed with my original choice anyway.

I too thought your clue was wonderful, pigale; also really liked ginge @28. Thanks so much for the mention, peterm (I guess it does work over there; it's not just a brand over here but more like an everyday word). Quite the clip- most uncomfortable-looking footwear, but strikes the right note with the painted nails. I remember his routine about our Pilgrims; he said something like: "They left from Plymouth and landed in Plymouth. What are the odds?"
