Hm, don't like the clue JimC - 'overseas' is redundant.

Answering Anthea's query which was posted as I slept...
There's no official term for a group of kookaburras but their call sounds like peals of hysterical laughter. Perhaps a cackling or a cacophony or even a clamour ... but I think the rooks have already collared that one.
Now I must get back to the crossword. I'm still stuck on 456 D.

I should have checked, it was just a google away, apparently it's a riot of kookaburras.

Sorry you didn't like the clue Anthea.

I was just trying to indicate the need to use a foreign language for 'good sound'.

G'day Terry.
Any hints?
Letters?
(It's been a long day and I've already hit the shiraz.)

Just caught the tail end of ths dialogue. Don't know if it's already been aired, but do you know the group term for skylarks? It's an exultation of skylarks - isn't that beautiful?

Hi AJT. This has been a very bizarre thread to which all sorts of odd birds have flocked in coveys, nyes, mobs, convocations and gaggles and yes, the one you like so much.
My favourite is an unkindness of ravens. Ruth Rendell used it as a title for one of her crime novels.
