Yes, I considered that, jazzgirl - but hidden and anagrammed seemed rather convoluted (especially when you remember some other Alpha Puzzle clues!).

It took me a while to realise it was an anagram of mother and E from Erica = theorem.

Thanks, daphne. Yes, that parsing was mentioned earlier - but the bit I didn't like was that the E came from Erica. It's an abbreviation I've never seen before, and I don't think it's a fair one!

Aristo, I think it was the same puzzle that used T for Tom not so long ago, and there too I couldn't see the basis for this.
