Thanks, pigale, but this clue was in Saturday's puzzle, and the crossword puzzles in The Times from Monday to Saturday don't show the name or pseudonym of the setter (except for the Listener Crossword).
Oh! Sorry Wintonian! I remember seeing the clue (and still had not
got it, so you have helped me!) but I could not remember it was
on Saturday! No, Saturdays or week-days never tell us the names
of the setters.
