Thanks folks. I hadn't twigged the axis angle. I'm still not quite convinced about the French grammar, but I'll take your word for it. Here's hoping for a better puzzle next week.

I have just checked with Chambers 12th and it shows plural as crepes suzettes but several other dictionaries show crepes suzette

Chambers mistaken (again) I would think - I can't imagine ever being served a crepe suzette.
