Hi Malone.
I need some help here! If 35 a is the Scottish word for dust, I don't see what suffix you could add to it which would make any sense. Perhaps I need some help getting the theme too!

35a works well with a single letter suffix - its even in Chambers. Am also at sea with the theme and down clues - - I think the suffix is four letters which works with some of them but not some others. Gtfl help. Tks v much

You may be at a disadvantage if not British.

Towns.

A four letter suffix and a 5 letter one for things that are to do with crossing rivers.

Speccie 2320
18D "Donkey for one bearing trap in Tyneside".
To finish and be satisfied I need to parse my solution. I cannot decide whether the first and last letters are identical (a/e ?) . Dealing with the unchecked letters has been somewhat tedious in this cleverly constructed puzzle.

I've got Engine, donkey engine, but I don't really like the clue! I think it's E, bearing, Gin, trap and the trap is in NE, Tyneside.

Glad I could help. I felt it was rather a clunky clue somehow!

Dja... I've just notice your little typo - I'm sure you meant 'and a 6 letter one..'
