Well I have fallen at the final fence! I feel I must have gone wrong somewhere.

I am trying to match up Cars/Rats refuge with the top right entry si-t-en. I can see a number would fit in but what two letters would match the clue?

I have so far not found k, y and z, but I have 2 d's, one from the royal mistress (du -----) and one from 30d.

Can someone put me right please.

Tomsdad,Sixteen goes with Bound (as was). There's definitely only 1 D used(mistress).

I'm a bit confused about your mention of 30 D- that's not a thematic clue.

Thanks Malone, that has sorted me out. Early on my crossword dictionary gave me 'lay on' as meaning 'pound' so that sent me on a wild goose chase that you have now cleared up!
