Yes the herald is Scottish

I think boaster is more of a scottish term

Sorry, jazzgirl - I was replying only to the 'Bolster (as a chisel) is not shown in Chambers', I didn't look at the rest of the clue, the stuff about stone.

Interesting discussion .
After I "jumped in" with my early answer of bolster yesterday, I have to agree with boaster being the better answer. The images in google show it as a much heftier tool too.
