10d is sorted now (not thematic)

I too struggled with this corner; with 21d it took ages to understand "stays out"!!
As regards 8d could we hammer home the wordplay where I think "hefting of the" is vital to an anagram, please?

Just need 9a now, though I am still 1 short in the thematics....

9a Put forward eliminating noisy bird and part of its call (4). I have NOT?

Bunty, we will hear lots of candidates "put forward" over the next 2 weeks! [8 letters.]
From it remove a bird which can be taught to speak.

I must be being very dim with the 14 letters. Unfortunately my butler carries out shopping tasks, so I have no idea what a "shopping list" is. Apart from "buy new Rolls" or "remember to arrange for the moat to be cleaned", that it. I have the letters - do I infer that they somehow pair up seven times? TV in the middle, together with the title, would imply a "set". (I believe the butler has such a device in his pantry.)

Think first and last letters of the respective entries and list them in the following manner:

O A
N Y

Write the 7 pairs of letters (top to bottom) side by side underneath each other and read down each column.

Cockie, my 'shopping list ' idea was just a nudge towards writing down the seven pairs one under the other. As in
. Bread
. Milk
. Cheese...
I thought it'd then be obvious what was going on. Subtlety is not my strong point- and the hint worked for the person who'd asked! Sorry if it was more of a hindrance for you.
