1. Half a quarter in the US

A vague possibility might be "divide"

Half (used as a verb) could be a synonym for divide.

In USA a quarter can mean a district or area. A divide can mean a boundary between two watersheds and in general parlance can be used to describe the area surrounding this boundary.

Seems a bit too convoluted though.

Yes that one seems to be the most problematic. I just need the answers to these ones:

1. Half a quarter in the US. (6)
5. As a first class return hides sweet chicken. Who’s sixth? (12) (Another Q)
11. Where money is thrown away in mid-aerial manoeuvring? (9) (And another Q)
18. Raise measures (so I hear) to stir up most of the atmosphere after I have left. (7) (Starts with an R)

Rossim,

You are, of course, quite correct. I am grasping at straws on this one!
