clear - to settle (a bill) i.e. pay

Thanks mamya and jazzgirl. As per my earlier posting, I could see how "I got paid £x" would be synonymous with "I cleared £x" but couldn't see the actual words 'pay' and 'clear' as being synonymous. However, I see that they are in jazzgirl's example.

Just finished, much harder this week in my opinion.
