I have ARES for 25d with the spare/extra/missing being T ?

This has been a very hard EV indeed!

I have ARET for 25d - an old word for award, A - American, Re is the god with an extra T.

i think that 25d is "aret" not "ares". the god is "re" which is a variant of "ra". the wordplay omits the extra letter "t".
