I had trouble downloading the print version. To overcome it, right-click on the link and save it to your PC. Rename the saved file by adding '.pdf' to the file name. It should open OK then.

I'm not sure what step-wise means in this context.

I have X and Y but don't understand "step-wise" or "homophonically" in the context of Y.

tintin - "stepwise" means that Y appears in the grid in a series of descending steps. Can't help with the "homophonically" yet (although I think I know what I'm looking for......half a dozen yet to complete).

kirky - you'll know if you have Y - a quick Google of the 'nom de plume' should confirm if you're unsure.

xwordfan - if you've got 6 of the 7, I'd assume that the 'nom de plume' should be fairly familiar.

nope ... still not making any sense....does the nom de plume start with 1st letter of 16d and end with 1st letter of 15a ... or am i interpreting wrongly?
I only have 6 left to solve but can't see Y yet.

xwordfan - "does the nom de plume start with 1st letter of 16d and end with 1st letter of 15a?" Yes it does. I got Y from the nom de plume.
