Under BREAST, Chambers gives 'singing voice (obs)'.
Obs = worn out.

Grease outwardly yielding = losing its outer letters to give REASE. Replace these with B for bass and T for tenor.
BREAST.

Stuck on the six letter word. Is it some kind of doughnut?

Thanks nelson. If you follow malone's advice you will get a phrase starting "a thin c---p s---t c--e". Google this and the first site in the list is ABSP. Look on this site for the same words and you will find a 6 letter word starting with j. There is a more common synonym that is probably what is required.
