Then toying with central part=mid/middle?,which throws assumed linked pairs/words.

It's the SB I can't work out as to suggestion of a word/part.

Completely baffled by this one. Like many other solvers I have completed the grid and like to submit my answer for the prize giving even though I have no idea of the required name. Normally in this kind of situation you are required to highlight your answer. What more can I do?

What are you entering for 5 and 36 though Farr?
What I call Salt and Pepper, but yes Part could be 36.

I like Chip, that sounds good.

Are you getting chip from LC? I'd have thought or/nor/and/nand/xor, as a chip usually has many LCs.

I can't make anything of SB: associations include divine/eggs/cookies/larks/wooden leg.

As for central's mate, either casting or parting would work.

Hi lumen,
I have pepper and salt for 5 & 36 for no other reason than they fit the known letters. Other posters have mentioned lamb for 36. You've now suggested Part and say you like Chip. Still as baffled as before!

Lamb doesn't fit it's ?a?t.

I only like chip as it could be part of a four syllable thing like Chip ping Cam den or something!
But I think the setter would have said place name, if it is not a person's name?

I'm in the same position as everyone else. I can very tenuously come up with "The Spectator" as the name. SB = Thesp; CC = T; LC = OR (see Chambers). It comes unstuck with the ECTA, which would somehow or other be 5,36. I've taken 5,36 to be pepper and salt, but they might not be. As said, very tenuous.

Could we be looking at something cryptic, with LC giving "no R" or "no T" and CC giving "extra S"?
