I have _O_E I_ L_V _ and I have an answer which I can't justify - let's see if I'm right and why!

Thanks! I got the "in love" correctly (I should hope so!) but my impatience hadn't taken me as far as "w" and, naturally, "loser in love" just didn't make sense!
