I don't want to give away too much for those who haven't started yet, but has anyone else got a clash at 1d/9a?

I think I know what you mean by clash here. I thought I had a perfectly good answer for 9ac - it seemed to fit the definition and wordplay, but didn't make sense with what I thought 1d had to be.
I took my definite crossers for 9ac and found via wiki another adventurer that fits better.

In 9ac 'mount' might not mean what you think it does ;-)

Pity - my answer to 9 was so obviously right!

Zozozo - I agree, it is a very good clue. Unfortunately for me I knew the name of an 'adventurer' which fitted my definite crossers in 9ac(3rd & 5th letters) and whose first 4 letters can mean 'mount' but whose 1st letter didn't fit with my thoughts on 1d - I was puzzled where 'potential' came into it so searched a list of 'adventurers' and
found one that fits perfectly (but who I'd never heard of!). Fine piece of mis-direction which I would assume is completely intentional.

The answer I have for 1d would mean my 9a begins with an 'F'

Could someone confirm this to be correct please!

Thank you
