Ginge. No worries about missed belters.
I loved Ixion's clue but can't get my head around "editor=sub".
Any help?

Thanks Ginge, congrats Ixion.

Same here Dorrien, a sub editor is one of the "editing" species but sub can be applied to many more professions, people, bits and pieces etc.

Sorry, can't help. Haven't found a thesaurus that lists sub as a synonym for ed.

Dorrien and Busby,

Ann Bradsford gives 'Journalist' as another word for 'Sub'

But is a 'journalist' necessarily an editor?

@ busby: Chambers is acknowledged in the UK as the reference Dictionary for most if not all "better" crosswords and the entry for sub includes "to work as a sub-editor" and is certainly used in journalism (again I can only refer to the UK) as the form of address to the sub-editor similar to "Skip" & "Gov" are used in the Police to refer to the appropriate ranking officer.
