No, not really - I understand what you are saying but still have problems in applying it to the clue - as I said before, I am being very obtuse and will look up Times for the Times explanation.

Hi again,

just had a look at Times for the Times, and am none the wiser - the 'team of solvers' gave more or less the same explanation as you all did and thought it 'a bit odd', or else thought the TO might come from 'in' fronT Of' - Still weird I think !

Thanks for the update, Pigale. I'm glad my 'in fronT Of' wasn't a ridiculous idea. It's still one of those slightly unsatisfactory clues!
