Yes, it appears I have blundered! Although Chambers gives a definition of Martian as "of war or battle Spenser [i/] it doesn't really mean warlike. Here's a rethink,

Cheers mattrom. I was mainly checking to see if I was missing a greater subtlety. I understood you're meaning but, as you say, martian doesn't directly mean warlike.
