"the" is extra here .... your answer is hidden in the clue and is a synonym for tender (in Bradfords)

It's just hidden in the clue. The preamble refers to 'superfluous' words - one is involved here.

That's a first, all clues solved, poet found but could find neither poem nor quote. I was sure it was Revolutions - made sense re anagrams but no quote. Finally saw it - a very clever twist on one of the two currently important birthdays and left me feeling slow (again!).
