Thanks itsme. There is no clue. The theme involves dogs. ?O?RA is the name of a dog, probably in mythology, but I am unable to find a reference. It's doggone difficult.
I have now confused myself ....... where did I get this from - Moe (Stooge) ra (artist) = Moera . Has this clue and answer come up in another crossword. Just found a copy of the Spectator and there is no clue for 26a !!!! Where did I get a clue involving Stooge and artist from ????? Any ideas ? lol
Thanks itsme and Sudoulover. I had found Maera as Icarius's dog, subsequently turned into Sirius, the dog-star. I have seen variant spellings of this as Maira, but never Moera. The Brewer online only references Maera, with the 'ae' as a diphthong.
