I have an almost full grid but still stuck on a couple. Is 1a proper words? Mine is just a jumble of letters (perhaps I have gone wrong)

1d One we might hear blowing top (6) ??RSE? (A letter may have to be removed before solving)
23d Recalled nonsense to cut sticks for telescopes (7) ??CT?RS (same as above).....doctors would fit ... but can't fully parse?

1A is three proper nouns, one of them a 1 letter abbreviation.

1D, remove 'b'. 23D remove an 's'.

Love it but not sure of the grid entry to change... thinking it must be 31d but my letter changes 9either choice) don't make real words?

Up to snuff except for finding the (b) change like you kirky. If anyone has the answer please point me to where I need to express my attitude....

The grid entry is a single 4 letter word.
