'Finished' this one on the iPad edition before coming here and discovering that there were special instructions, so that there was still work to do. It's a constant annoyance to me that this edition omits special instructions. Normally I realise I'm missing something quite early on, but of course in this case it was impossible to know.

Not strictly an acronym in fact, because it can't be said as a word. It's a Roman abbreviation.

Is the answer a town? Is NOT anagrammed at the edges of a synonym for FLASHY? Then 1d. I can't think of a flower. I have ten in and enjoyed getting them but it's tough.
