Rondo, piece of music. The R is the start/first letter of Record+on/playing+do/ditto/the same.

Start to record is R
playing is ON
the same is DO (ditto)

gives RONDO = piece of music

Finished..........much obliged to you all........a bit weird ....are all the compilers like that?

This crossword is sometimes a lot more straightforward. Some solvers don't like today's setter, Dean Mayer - he can be quirky at times. I don't mind him, but I usually have to work a bit harder.

thanks for your help.........I actually really enjoyed doing it..........but could not have finished it without help......but it lets you see the compilers thoughts when you and others parse it...........much appreciated.......can't wait for next weeks............how sad is that .....however one must take up hobbies when newly retired.........so i'm told
