Kirky, 85 is wrong for the first two digits of 11a. 5 is correct, but the first digit is not 8. I don't know how you've got 8, because I don't think there's any viable entry for 1d that has 8 as the middle digit, but I may have overlooked something.

I started with the pair of 6dn and 16dn. These each gave three possible solutions with the same central number.
This then gave three possible solutions for 10 ac but when I invert for 18 ac all three can be a product of two primes. Am I doing something wrong?

heisenberg gave 625 for 6d earlier making 16d 529.

2d has also been given so I think that only leaves one choice now for 10a and thus 18a

I may have misunderstood though, not having done any more as yet............hopefully later.

Kirky,
Heisenberg said IF 6d is 625 then 16d is 529. He was using that an example of how 5s and 2s don't change when rotated.

raggedy, there are indeed three solutions for 10a (ending in that number given by all options for 6d) after eliminating three that have 3, 4 or 7 in them. Two of those three, when inverted, are the product of two primes. The third is not. If it's any help, inversion in this case is the same as reversal since 6/9 is not involved.

I have filled in the numbers but cannot see what the word along the top is. Can anyone let me know the first letter - or any letter. I think there are two Ss in it?

Pushkin, to see the word, I wrote down all the letters that could be made by removing any segments from each number. The word should soon jump out at you. There are two esses.

I did the same as cloverjo, but had difficulty at first getting something appropriate because I overlooked one possibility for the first digit. In the end I guessed the word and saw what I'd overlooked.
