Hi Orson

There are no extra letters in the clues. You have to alter the unclued answers in the final grid in a certain way to make them all the same.

The answers are Demeter and Persephone

Temed is an old word for joined up. in reverse it's demet

I thought se(t) was firm shortly. Chambers doesn't define pert as firm, just saucy and forward etc. But if you are right, djawhufc, se has to mean charge for. Sorry if I'm being obtuse.
