I've finished this to my satisfaction except for 27across. I don't see how one can determine which the extra letter is, until one knows what the "sentence" is.
By the way the heading number is wrong. It should be 4351.

regular letters in aRtIsAhIp = RIAI, def = RAI so I is extra.

Thanks for that. I ws trying to equalise the number of letters between the R, A and I.

Group is R.E.M.; wordplay RE + MS (manuscript/writing). S extra

city = EC, officer = CO, HOME anagram (mobile) inside.
