There is of course such a beast as the ? ? ? bird, which is placed in a ? ? ? to vent gases whilst it is in the oven cooking but that doesn't really parse very well either. Thanks anyway

I have one of those in the kitchen cupboard. Not used very much now but handed down from my grandmother.

Isn't it called a "patty pan" (as in the Beatrix Potter story "The pie and the patty pan")

Mine was white ceramic, (as per pic) but over the years has discoloured due to its use and has crazing .
