Hints on this thread have brought me within sight of the end. Help with either 30a or 31d will give me time to cut the grass. Generally an easy run this week.

those of us without the crossword need the clues

30a pall is synonym for corporal in wordplay
31 d one is the synonym for 'a certain' in the wordplay
