Let it stand fiery - there's only so many wordplay possibilities here.
I will not let one flukey strike by a largely absent over-the-hill goal moocher influence me in any way.
5 in a row ... the shame of it :)

Hello everyone and thanks to all who took part this week.
I'm calling this a little early as I must attend a birthday party (for an 11 year old - taking ear plugs, dancing shoes and a pack of cards for tricks!)
No need to take any comment to heart or be miffed if you're not mentioned, anyway here's a few that caught the eye.

therogue's #6 - didn't notice it was so &littish could maybe have done with the ! or ? - same for jack#7.
heath #11 - nice alternative def. with the athlete (but he's not a hurdler)
les40 #15 love the surface but should there be some kind of indication to "split" bulletin?
tr/fj 19/20 - you two again what's going on! A nice idea -slightly prefer jack's inference for a container rather than an anagram but maybe too easy to solve.
rambler#24 - brilliant idea but is it too much to ask us non-cardiologists for a definition? (We've been here before and will just have to differ!)
ixion 26,27,28 three solid late entries but not really slapping me in the face.

My winner this week is chrise @5
Sir Thomas Beecham, berserk at inclusion in reference work? (8)

Not often I'd go for a hidden word but I like the way I would have been grubbing round for an anag, with "berserk"

Your prize is a little trick to impress people who think they're good with numbers

Wow and wow! (First for your choice, BBM, then for the clip). Thanks very much.

My choice would have been ixion's initial letters one - very clever!
