Can anyone confirm that at the end, when you isolate the 5 thematic items, altogether 5 letters remain unused? Rather an unusual twist if I'm on the right track.

I also have five spare letters. The preamble does say "present" now that I've read it more carefully. Unusual though.

Can some kind person give me a push here. I'm expecting to see the description of the country in a quote by the gentleman of that country in the ODQ but to no avail. Is my edition (7th) out of date? Please help

It's not in my 6th Edition, but is very well known (but then I live in that country!)

Thanks greedy kite. Almost there! Can you help me finish with 10a Stranger nearly rejected tuber (4) E?DO and explain why 41a Feeling good, right, in model's embrace (6) should be "spirit". Thanks

Eddo is a tuber, odder = stranger, back, almost.
Spirit=feeling (definition) pi = good, sit= model, r for right.

I wonder what the '9' is doing up there in the top right-hand corner. Anyone got an idea? Plain mistake, I suppose?
