A "US prison" is the same as the answer to 31 across, so REN- is wrong and you must have 6 down slightly wrong as well. Both 14 across and 6 down have single letter misprints in their definitions.
Is it correct that the first four rows have to be completely erased apart from one letter? I'm struggling to find some of the two and three letter sequences that are necessary to do this. How many are there? I have 14 at the moment.

The answer is yes to your first question. I have marked 17 clues with extra letters in my paper but I think there must be one more that I found late on which I didn't bother to mark.
