Managed about one-third of the Christmas crossword so far. Hopefully not yet in need of help for the rest. It may come to that eventually. Just wanted to say a very happy Christmas to you all.

Well I've given in to temptation at last and had a go at it! Got through it without help except for the last two. I have answers but I can't see the parsing. If someone could explain I'd appreciate it. 12d Jam for bear (5). I have stick. The Jam bit I can see but bear??? Likewise 39a, Confectionery almost dripping but hardens outside (6) I have sweets. Confectionery fine but the rest. I'm racking my mind and it's like toothache! If there's a cruciverbal dentist out there...
