A spectroscope is a type of guage(something to do with lightI think)
It ts an anagram of Scoop inside the word Spectre(spirit/ghost)

scheme = plot
involves
one = put an i in it
aviator = pilot

i thought there was a c in it because that made 19 down content but didnt know spectre meant gauge
therefore 23 across is now A - - - I N - - A VERY QUIET WEAPON HOLDS CURRENT DEVISE , I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AMUNITION BUT IT CANT IF CONTENT(19 DOWN PLEASED WITH WHATS INSIDE} IS RIGHT
