I'm getting there but slowly.....I can do the Times Quick Cryptics usually, and I like the Everyman and the FT; sometimes, I am ok with the daily Guardian Quick Cryptics - but my prowess there does vary with the setter!

my mistake. i typed deity instead of deify.

evacuation of envoys. Take everything out of the word 'envoys' leaving 1st and last letters (e and s).
