Just off to the kitchen scales...hold on......
4.14 lbs
That's odd... this also is a hardback- altho not thumb- indexed(no such refinement!)
What about the extra weight of the promised additional 1000 new words?!

I'v e also got 'never' for 6 Across - the same parsing as you suggest, Brendan. It fits with what I've put for 7D - vindicator

trainload?

btw elle, despite what the posting tips say, it is more convenient if you DON'T put spaces between your letters (can then be directly copied and pasted into, for instance, Chambers Word Wizard)

Thanks, Chris - I would never have got that answer .
I didn't know about Chambers Word Wizard' - have just googled it, useful to know , thanks!
However, it doesn't matter if spaces are put between the letters - they can still be copied and pasted - I've just tried it!

You've just taught me something there, elle! How much time have I wasted deleting the spaces!
