I may be a Yankee rube, but I do know that tea is a meal in the UK. :) I just don't see where "to enjoy" comes in.

Oh dear,

I suspect you'll all want to kill me, but I missed out part of the clue to 22a(4,5) It should read 'A meal people gathered to enjoy? Cook grabs dog.'

If you can get it now, you're better man than me, gunga din

And while I'm on, any ideas re- 23a(5) 'Needs to write by trade' I've got b- --
or 24a (8) 'Taken aback, wearing good clothing.' I've got e-r-----

Thanks again, everyone. BTW - it's a new compiler, I think - ANAX

Then it might be something CUR RY...

I know, rusty. I just didn't see anything cryptic, and it would seem to have to be.
