Beegee,

An outside guess it could be stooge.

Moe Howard and Curly Joe Derita were part of the three stooges. The were pillocks and of course pals.

Why they haven't included the third stooge in the clue beats me - therefore I could be very wide of the mark

Glad you agree, here is a little cryptic clue for you to mull over.

Could this feathered friend belonging to the species of medium-sized, usually colorful and noisy, passerine birds of the crow family Corvidae, become an elegant long necked rival.
