49D _U_L_T_ "Character fired while in dock"

I think the answer must be BULLITT, but I can't see how it fits the "while in dock" part of the clue. Any explanation?

Thanks Trevor - I'm sure you're right (though it did take me a few minutes to see how "quality" fitted "character" - I'd really got fixated on Bullitt!)

I'm sure 'Bullitt' was everyone's first thought. I went there myself and it took me ages to see 'quality' as the correct answer.
