Good morning friends. Summer has surely ended here in North Wales. It's cold and pouring rain. Hare are today's offering. Hope they prove challenging. J

I set clues just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few? Since they're new, no letters!

Please withhold solutions till 5 pm (GMT + 1) to allow others to have a go.

1. Close? On the contrary! (3,4,2)

2. Plants one of exaltation to incite central dissent (9)

3. Elegant literature (very French) following beautiful women to let (6-7)

4. A small tree left unfelled when taking lumber out of last rainforest (7)

5. Mist enveloping the biker turned out to be of little importance (5,3,4)

'Morning Rossim. As they'd say in the old country, "quick as a cock on a raspberry". Have a good day out.

Hi jolan,
I hope your specialist appointment last week went well and nothing untoward resulted.
No need to fret regarding your clues, last week's offerings were neither stale nor less challenging than usual. I look forward to Tuesday's (and sometimes Wednesday's) deliberations.

Good morning jolan.
Just come in from gardening - not a nice day in the Pennines, but dry enough.
I can see an answer for #1, but it looks too obvious. I'll look at the others after I have abluted.

Nice to see Ginge, RE, and Chrise (#1 I'd guess your #1 answer is correct. It IS obvious. Aren't all my clues? LOL),

Thanks for the query ginge and RE. My vision in the operated eye had improved but there is still a wee membrane over the macula which is causing some oedema there. I'm continuing to use two separate eye drops, 4 times a day. So I would definitely say, all is well. Thank you.

I have #3 now - this one I am sure about.

I am trying to remember an obvious clue that you have set, jolan.........but I've only been attempting your clues a year or so!

Struggling today Jolan I believe I have 1) and 2) but having difficulty with the remaining three clues. I'll keep at it and look forward to seeing the eventual solutions and parsing.

Glad to hear you are recovering with your sight problems. I had laser surgery in 2004 and have never looked back. Did I just say that? Ha ha.
