"Rests wartime RN abbreviation in this sense" (4)
I have "H-HS". Could someone provide and explain the solution, please?

Looks like HMHS = His/Her Majesty's Hospital Ship. Cannot, for the life of me, parse it, tho!

Hi Jolan

I can see HS ( hoc sensu - in this sense) but 'rests'
is a problem for me.

The defn could be "rests wartime" - eg Hospitals.
RN abbreviation HMS minus the S = HM + HS in this sense - best I can come up with !

Aha!

How about HOHS = cessation = rest(s). Is that last s there?

HO ( abbrev): hostilities only, used to designate service in the Royal Navy during wartime.

And, of course, the HS has already been well exp[lained.

I'm now convinced it's HOHS. What do you think Tony and Chris?

Just to complicate things: "MH" can mean "Military Hospital" (though aparently only rarely, to my surprise). Could "rests" mean "remains, whichever way you take it"???
