I still have just the one today:

4. Turn the cat in the pan
(abandon =anagrind: apache hunter + TNT + in)

I've stared at the rest on and off but no inspiration came.
Thanks jolan for the brain workout. x

Well done Ari! All correct. Hi also to Rossim and Tony (when he gets in). I love your "anagrind" jazzy (x).

Although Ari has explained them by his spacing, I'll paste my working, for completion. Just off to have a shower now prior to going out to a meeting. I'll peek in when I get home.

Have a lovely week

J

1. noticeable = overt; sailors = RN; America = US; OVERTURNS = reverses.

2. raced = ran; a rain (storm = anag indic)) = arian; RANARIAN = froggy (Chambers)

3. Anglo-Saxon = AS; drink = port; ASPORT (rare) = to carry away (esp. wrongfully - Chambers)

4. anag(abandoned) of “Apache hunter TNT tin” = TURN THE CAT IN THE PAN = to change sides with dexterity (Chambers, under cat (1))

5. Arab (say = for example) = horse; works = opera (plu of opus); HORSE OPERA = western

Great clues, Jolan. Hello to andyc, rossim, malone, jazzgirl, and Tony. I hope to see all of you at Clueless (though Ms. Jazz has already declined).

Well done Ari.

I owe you an apology re #4. I was (very wrongly)
thinking along the lines of SCRUMPY which I doubted
was widely consumed in the US.
Of course my answer has the wrong number of
letters and, however I try, I can't justify it for both
parts of the clue.
See you next week.

Too clever for me this week, Jolan. Have to admit, I didn't try too hard though as it's been a lovely sunny day so I've been gardening all afternoon. Closest I got was #4 turn the pat in the can - nonsense, I know........
