I think I've got them, Jolan, but I have to go out today. I'll send you the answers telepathically. Just tap your temple twice if they're right.

Having stared blankly at the clues for a couple of hours, I think in the last 5 minutes I have cracked 2, 3 and 4!

Have only just started to look at today's offerings, as I've been busy looking after my friend's dog most of the day.
I can see #4 so far.

1. PALUDOUS - anagram OPUS around A "LUD" (variant of "Lord"), meaning marshy or inhabitant of marshy areas. My first thought was PALUSTRE, which is quite a common specific name applied to plants growing in marshes, for example Equisetum palustre

2. PRAISERS - leading Pig + RAISERS for "breeders", meaning "extollers". (I don't think I'll say what my first idea was!)

3. PTARMIGAN - a grouse, and also the codename for a battlefield communication system - see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Communications_and_Information_Systems_(United_Kingdom)#Ptarmigan

4. THERE AND THEN - subtractive anagram "entering the band he" without "being".

5. MANDARIN - hidden word.

I had thought of offering Bellyache for grouse. Well, it does have sort of a ring to it. lol
